I love me some vintage ( as you know) but it’s not always easy (or cheap) to source original items – and makeup from the 1940s, for instance is certainly not something we can use *shudders*. So I keep my eye out for new brands that are embracing the old vintage glamour. One such favourite is Bésame Cosmetics. Based in the US, they finally ship to the UK (hurrah!) and sell all manner of makeup in authentic vintage colours, plus limited edition items, such as the Mickey Mouse Lipsticks and Mirror set below.
In celebration of the 90th Anniversary of Mickey Mouse, they have collaborated with Disney and created two brand new lipstick shades called Mickey Red and Ink. Plus the packaging is decorated with artwork pulled from classic Mickey animation from the 1930s. Neato!
RMS Beauty is another brand that has a product I love that will help recreate vintage looks. The Beauty Vintage Cake Liner is everything! Not only can it be used as a matte shadow (think 20s smokey eyes) but with water and a brush, it creates a flawless cat flick. It has lovely coconut and jojoba oils in it to keep it gliding smoothly and is gluten free, essential oil free, GMO free, and soy free (in case you needed to know). Plus the brand is the creation of celeb makeup artist Rosemary Swift so she knows her onions.
Next up in Pretty Vulgar, a new(er) brand on the block but oh! the packaging! Think whimsy, edgy, floral, glamour, feminity and edge all in one! Above are a few examples: Matt lipstick, blusher, foundation and glitter body spray…click on the link to explore the gorgeous products!
Finally, above is my selection from The Balm – another super cute vintage inspired brand. The Mary-Lou Manizer is a makeup artist must-have, as is the bronzer. L-R: Model wearing the Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter next to the product itself – $17; Bahama Mama Bronzer is $10 for the travel size; Life’s a Beach nude palette is $36; Schwing liquid liner is $17; Meet (Matte) Hughes lipgloss in Trustworthy – $17. See the full range here.
So there you have it! If you want to add some style to your face and makeup bag, I totally recommend checking these brands out and let me know what you think.
Wedding season kicked off last month big time for The Blusherettes. We have had some gorgeous vintage-loving brides, lots of hair and makeup trials and August is shaping up to be our busiest month for weddings.
Last weekend we were at Twist Wedding Fayre at The Flaxmill Maltings in Shrewsbury. This alternative wedding event allows different suppliers that work with brides and grooms who are certainly not vanilla in their tastes. We fitted in perfectly. Here are a smattering of the looks we created for the event…
