Adoring all things vintage, whimsical and downright quirky

Category Archives: Autumn / winter

Gosh this is pretty don't you think?

I’m a terrible blogger, I’ve been so busy moving from the city to the countryside and writing lots of features and doing lots of lovely make-up and hair styling, that I’ve totally neglected my blog! I promise to make amends though, so I thought a pick of my latest swoonsome finds that encompass the three A/W2015 interior trends that I have my beady eye on. It might go some way to say sorry to my lovely readers….:-)

Here goes…

I found this awesome shop called Adairs which is Australian-based (aren’t ALL the beautiful things always from Aus?) and while I think they ship to the UK, it would be great if someone (hint, hint, Britain) might become a supplier?  Anyhoo, I’m coveting the cloud covers for my two little girls’ new bunk beds. I had to suffer brown gingham in the 1970s on my bed, so my girls are going to get something p-r-e-t-t-y! They cost around $AUD99 for a single which is like £45. Pricey but nicey! This is the colour pop trend in a nutshell – pretty bright splashes of rainbow hues against a fresh neutral palette. What’s not to love? Throw in some stripes, a bit of chevron, some polka dots and you’re laughing!

Gosh this is pretty don’t you think?

While we are still at Adairs, I’m totally bagging these gold spot stickers for my new home office – a little pop of gold in the morning is sure to dust away the cobwebs!

Now to some glamour – this is such a hot trend at the moment in interiors, and one I’m quite partial to – not the whole shebang, mind, just a sprinkling here and there…take this teeny gold geometric vase, for example, I love it! It’s EUR10 from Aprilandthebear.com.

Another trend that is creeping into the autumn is the decadent gothica styling which is evident in the latest high street offerings. I like elements of this, such as this Edith Cushion found at House Junkie (£72). Just the right amount of macabre fun to make it onto my sofa!

My face! What happened to my face?!

Still at HouseJunkie, check out this angle poise candelabra – I mean, come on! This one might be a tad pricey at £75 but it’s so original! I loves it.

So there we have my autumn edit. I promise I will add more soon! Enjoy x

Well apologies again for my lapse in postings – having a baby really does take up your time 😉

Elsie Valentina came into the world on August 23 at 12.58pm weighing 8lb 13 and is a real little beauty. I have since been obsessed with cute baby clothes and will post on this shortly, but for now, here are a few things I have spotted recently inbetween burping, feeding and nappy-changing…

H&M has now got a funky home range and while they don’t do a massive load of stuff, i really like what they do – I have already snappped up the cushion and table runner and am in the process of customising these gorgeous bags as Christmas presents for my sisters…

First up: Sel de Mer cushion – £7.99 (image above)

Or how about these linen bags – only £6.99

I have also bought the table runner – I’m really loving the old English rustic vibe. This is only £12.99 too.

While on the hunt for Christmas goodies (I know, I know, it’s early but when you have to be creative with your pennies, it’s worth shopping shrewdly!) I have fallen in love with this beautiful little paper store called Papermash. I have ordered the lace tape from there and also the bird stamp and typewriter tape. So cute – my present wrapping is going to be the bomb!

Lace tape – £5.95

Bird stamp – £12

Here’s one for the kids – how cute is this tooth fairy kit? When Elsie is old enough, she’s having one!

I’ll be back soon with more lusious finds for Christmas…

new-york-cabs

My oh my, what a terrible blogger I have been! Work duties have seen me taken away from my cosy Bristol bubble and spat me out into the corporate world, fortunately for me, that was New York and it was divine! It was a particularly pertinent time to be voyaging to the States as I arrived the day after Obama was elected president and the atmosphere was electric. However, I confess, my mind was on less trivial things, such as shopping! From make-up at Macy’s to trawling the boutiques in the East Village, I loved every moment of my downtime and shall definitely be returning soon.

I picked up a copy of Nylon there, a really cool magazine that I haven’t come across here and it is fab! Really edgy and eccentric, quite British actually – it reminds me of The Face  which incidentally, has a great Flickr group showcasing the old covers. Nylon has a great blog which is definitely worth checking out…

In the meantime, it’s that time of year when I make my annual shopping pilgrimage to Amsterdam (hurrah!) and can’t wait to check out what the city has to offer.

I have already planned with military precision the places to visit, mainly in the Jordaan area of the city in fact, the image below was taken from one of the thrift shops in that district which has so many quirky boutiques selling everything from clothing to homeware – great for presents too.

And, if anyone is visiting that way, check out our sister blog Secret Shopping which lists some of the cool shops to head to – and if you know of any others, be sure to let us know!

I shall be back with more regular posts after getting this mammoth week of work out of the way (I always use alliteration when I am stressed) with some great new finds to help out with those Christmas lists!

Ah,  just look at the sun blazing in the blue sky, and the leaves crunching underfoot. I truly love autumn. As such I have found a few little treats to prolong the fuzzy feelings of warmth and contentedness – and how better than with a cup of tea and piece of cake…

One of my favourite textile designers is Maija Louekari who creates patterns for Marimeko – I have an ongoing love affair with graphic monochrome prints so I just had to put this new black and white Hetkia latte mug into the mix. It can be purchased here.

I also think that Etsy has some fine offerings too such as this Chickadee cup by Kristen K Swanson and this quirky ‘love bird’ dish by Paloma’s Nest.

And if you like your crockery simple but stylish, you can’t go far wrong with Polly George’s new set of designs. I love her Bow range but she also does butterflies and flowers too…

Now I have to mention cake – well food – and if you are seeking some inspiration, you should definitely check out The Barefoot Kitchen Witch blog (the recipes are divine!) I have also come across the “Baked” cookbook which is on Amazon for around £8.50 – I have already ordered mine and can’t wait – the choclolate brownies are to die for, so I hear.

And what about the humble toffee apple? Another great autumn treat that makes me want to wrap up warm and go strolling through the park! Easy to make, hard to forget and totally worth indulging in!

And being as it is nearly Halloween, I rather like this horror plate from ceramic designer Superpanda.

That concludes my tea and cake treats – now get baking!

To whet the old whistle and get you in the mood for autumn (or fall, whichever you prefer) I have been scouting the web, like a pig snuffling for truffles and have come across so great pre-wintery inspiration to get your cockles warmed and to rinse out the last few drops of summer…

First up, I have found some delicious autumn cocktails to get you in the spirit of things – and with names such as Roasted Pear Belini and Hot Spiked Cider, I shall certainly be serving my guests such tipples. And to accompany them, I rather fancy some of these tasty looking biscuits…yum

In my efforts to find the dusty gems ripe for polishing for your delictation, I have found a couple of new blogs – Please Sir (from whence the biscuits came) is one of those you come across that makes you smile and gets the mind buzzing with inspiration – I would definitely check it out.  Similarly, Pret a Voyager is a great little blog and has some interesting links too, in fact I have spotted a shop I am going to go to when I visit Berlin next week thanks to this happy little blog – and I too am going to purchase the super cute diamond ring stamp (only €5)

Now anyone who is anyone can’t have failed to have noticed this rather dashing poster which can be found on Village and purchased for 60 of your American dollars. A bit steep but I tell you, it’s a design classic and shall look fabulous on my newly painted living room chimney breast.

Now Autumn wouldn’t be welcomed in without a good pair of tights and there is actually a dedicated group on Flickr called the tights, socks & leggings group. Bless them. I found this lovely image on there which is actually showing off the Monkey things but I just love her shoes and tights combo, very stylish for Autumn.

And just to satisfy my shoe craving, I just had to add a pair of Tracey Neul shoes – with a touch of the peep toe so you can feel like you are dancing on the edge of summer (or wear with yellow tights and look super funky) Now there, don’t you feel better about our approaching season shift now?
